As regular readers know, I live in a very small town, less than 3000 population. We came here from a slightly bigger town, around 9000. We haven't been able to figure out why this town has so much more noise than the old one.

After yet another muffler-less full-size pick truck roared by our house, I joked with the wife that there must not be a noise ordinance in town. In fact I quipped that there might be a “no muffler” law in effect. She took up the challenge and called the sheriff (there is no local police department) to see if I was right.

Lo and behold, there IS no noise ordinance here!

Sheriff Omar (I’m NOT kidding) said that he thought that was a really good idea. Next town council, I am going to propose it.

Unless he was yanking our chain... hmmm... and I THAT much of a rube?
