Sloth: NFL Week 9
Out of the frying pan, into the fire…
Steelers (5-2) at Packers(1-6) (+3.5) Over/Under: 39
The Steelers are without two very big parts of their offense, Ben Roethlisberger and Jerome Bettis. Not having to defend against one of the NFL’s all-time great power running backs and seeing Charlie Batch again should be a very good thing for the surprisingly good Packer Defense. The Steelers are still loaded on offense, but without these two, they just might tip this match up to the favor of the Packers “D”. The Steelers will be persistent in running the ball against the stout Packers run defense in hopes of wearing them down in the late stages of the game. I think that they will succeed, as have other offenses this season. Look for big runs late in the game when the Steelers are looking to kill the clock for the victory.
The outlook is not as rosy as for the Packer offense. They may be starting a player that was out of football until October at running back as Tony Fisher (the backup to the backup of Ahman Green) missed some practice time late this week with a rib injury. If Fisher can’t go, ReShard Lee will bring his 7 yards on 7 carries to the party. The news is only slightly better at wide receiver. After legitimate starter Donald Driver the pickings get pretty slim. Antonio Chatman, Andrae Thurman and Lawrence “Taco” Wallace are the rest of the WR lineup. When a guy named “Taco” gets in the game, you know you have problems. Brett Favre is the only weapon this week, again. I don’t think he will toss 5 INTs again, but the Steelers defense is not losing sleep over this game.
The main play this week is the UNDER. I will also take the 3.5 points.
Steelers 17
