Pride: Carny Fun

When you submit a post for Bonfire consideration, you give some sort of excuse or self-depreciating humor. I submitted the following:
Never send to know for whom the black helicopters fly; they fly for thee.Which, I must say, is pretty clever. The Bonfire host didn’t get it.
Its a reference to an obscure work of fiction by an obscure writer.
Am I off base here or should I call 1-800-TBSFunny?
